The Tampa Woolworth Project recognizes and honors the courageous actions of Tampa resident Clarence Fort and the NAACP Youth Council.
As president of the group Fort organized and took part in the lunch counter sit-in movements along with 50 Blake and Middleton high school students on February 29, 1960.
We hope the Tampa Woolworth Project will not only help identify former members of the youth council but also help raise funds for a historical marker at the Woolworth building
that's still standing at the corner of North Franklin and Polk Streets in Downtown Tampa, FL across the street from the Sam M. Gibbons U.S. Federal Courthouse.
